This Is Rad! - (The Alien Franchise)

Earlier this year I had the chance to meet Kyle Clark at his album taping for Absolute Terror (Info below), but I guess this story actually starts farther back than that (Spoiler Alert: We talk about it on the episode). At the taping Kyle gave me a standing invite to come on the show if I was ever in the LA area. Well, it just so happened that in early October I was doing some traveling and reached out.

I had a great time meeting and recording with the whole Rad! crew, and encourage you to listen to my goofy ass voice talk about Aliens for three hours (yeah…no joke). Hopefully I’ll be able to make it back and maybe get another episode recorded in the can.

And of course, my offer does still stand for headshots or anything Radland Records related ;)

This is a rare chance to hear me talk about something that isn’t photography related…so enjoy!

This week Kyle and Matthew welcome photographer Blake Griffin to the show to chat about the Alien Franchise. Everybody involved is a fan and they really go deep on this one. From the cinematic perfection that are Alien and Aliens to the triumphs and tragedies of the comics and video games. We dig into the franchise and leave very few stones unturned. So climb into your power loader and strap in because in podcasting nobody can hear you scream. (That’s not true, we hear Kyle scream on this podcast all the time. Zing!)

Straight Edge Tattoo - Corset Piercing

So this entry is going to be a little different than my usual posts. I wanted to try something a little different in how I present things as well. Instead of a few select photos and a lot of text, I am going to have my favorite photos from the night in a gallery slide show below.

I was invited by Brandie and Nic of Straight Edge Tattoo to document a corset piercing being performed by Nic for his portfolio. I didn't want to treat this as a typical portrait session (because it wasn't), so instead I chose to make myself a fly on the wall and try to capture the beauty, emotions, and even the pain of this pursuit of beauty.

For those who may not be familiar with the process a few considerations:
Yes, these are real piercings. They were performed in sequence throughout the course of the evening. After our final laced photos were taken, they were removed. These piercings are not made to be permanent, only temporary.

This type of activity should only be performed by a professional in a clean and sterilized environment using only new and sterilized equipment. Proper safety precautions should be taken at all times.

For more information, or to have a piercing like this performed yourself please contact your local tattoo/piercing shop for more information. (If you happen to be in the Atlanta area, make sure to drop by and see everyone at Straight Edge Tattoo)

Ecto Proxy – EPK Photos (Part 1 Studio).

Back in November, I had the chance to shoot a round of EPK (Electronic Press Kit) photos for Finite Automata. If you don't recognize that name just take a look at the last few blog posts and refresh yourself.  At the time, there were just two members, but since at point a third has been added. This entry is not about that band, but instead another great project by the name of Ecto Proxy.

Damian, Coco, Cody, and I entered into talks to provide some shots for their press kit a few weeks back. We thought through a multi-part concept, for a few different setups. Since Damian will be leaving for a tour at the end of the month, we made sure to snatch up any time we could and work out some time to get at least a few photos taken.

The photos themselves as they are, stand on their own, but I am excited to see what these turn into as Damian and Cody both are experienced and talented graphic designers. Once I see the final images as they will be presented I may update this post (or possibly give them a shout out of their own). But until then, be sure to check out Ecto Proxy (Facebook/Soundcloud) and give them a like. Big things are coming soon out of these three.
