Week 38 – Miss K – Fujicolor 200

So here we go. Week 50(51?) (officially). This year has been a trip. Based on my notifications this should be the last roll for the project here for 2015. Removing the mystery roll post from a few weeks ago, and that one time I scanned my gameboy. This makes up all of the entries for this year. Next week I'll be doing a roundup of some of my favorite images, just in case you haven't been following the whole time.

"Miss K" and I have been friends since very shortly since I moved to Atlanta back in 2010. She has always been a bit of an enigma (and likes to keep it that way). However it was decided that she and I HAD to work together before the project ended. Fitting that she would be the last.

We had a lot of fun shooting this during a very late night at my studio. I hope you enjoy it as much as we did.

Week 37 – Grinder – HP5+ (+2 Stops to 1600)

Stevhan is not a stranger to this blog, however not exactly in the way you would expect. His basement was used a few weeks ago for the shoot I did with Finite Automata. He is an interesting fellow, and I don't exactly remember how we actually met. But that doesn't matter.

When he contacted me through my weekly call to action on Instagram and said he wanted to do something with fire. I'd be lying if I both wasn't A) a little scared, and B) seriously intrigued. So I made sure I cleared time in my schedule to shoot.

Sadly for you there isn't any of the fireball photos in this batch, I shot all of those digital (and posted them to my news blog a few weeks ago; by the time this goes live). However I did get some of his grider act on film. And for shooting in almost pitch darkness except for a modeling light for focus, I'm happy to have captured anything at all.

"Miss K" – 2015

This photo set was a long time in the making. Or at least a bit of a scheduling nightmare. But eventually we were able to work things out.

"K" and I met at a now closed bar here in the Atlanta area. Because of our similar schedules at the time we would always frequent the same nights and quickly she became one of my closest friends. When it came time to shoot some of what will be the final photos of the 2015 52 rolls project. We decided that she had to make something happen before the end of the year and the end of the project.

After a few days of back and forthing, we ended up meeting late and working into the night. Enjoy the below photos we were able to create together. And stay tuned for a future 52 rolls update shot at the same time.

Week 36 – Nikki Nuke'm – Kodak Portra 400

You know, when I first sat down to scan these images my first thought was "You know, just copy and paste what you wrote from the other photos of Nikki Nuke'm that you shot. Nobody will ever know". Except once I started the retouching process, I knew I just couldn't do that.

If you don't know what I am talking about, please make sure to view the digital photos taken during this series here.

There are few things I can say about this entire series more than "I LOVE THIS". Not every shot was a winner, they never are, but I was able to create a solid series of images and for that I am pretty excited. This is a great example of what a year of constant practice will do for a skill set. I can only hope that I can continue to see things improving, and that my follow up sets with Nikki turn out as great as this one did.

Week 35 – Murphy's Law – Fujicolor Super HQ 100 (+1 Stop accidentally)

So you know what they say. If it can go wrong, it will go wrong. And sometimes you just have to make the best of it.

I was invited to a meetup with other Atlanta Film Photographers. Members Steven and Neil put on a great showing of skill and knowledge, and after a real world lesson in lighting it was off to the races. Almost immediately I was more than a little intimidated, not by my gracious hosts mind you, but at my own skills (or perceived lack there of).

If you follow me on Twitter you may remember that I was struggling with my wireless trigger system after starting the move to Sony FE mount cameras. Long story short, old doesn't like to work with new so much. So my usual trigger set was out of my bag. I remembered sync cables though, so I figured I would be ok. As I lined up for the first shot, I pulled out my light meter...and the battery was dead. Rendering my metering useless. Luckily both Neil and Steven allowed me to use some of their kit and I was able to snap a few shots. Including my first photo taken with a medium format camera, and a single shot with a Leica to see if I could make it work with my lights...I'm only a little jealous.

So I had a great time, even if I did feel super intimidated by all of the great talent who showed up. Got home to develop the roll, and realized I had grabbed a 100 speed roll of film instead of 200. So the shots that I was able to grab, all were underexposed. After a little frantic googling and instruction reading I was able to compensate with development and below are the photos I was able to capture of Models Diya and Uh...another whose name escapes me at the moment (sorry).
