The Shelter 2009-2013

Hello Friends and Followers,

As many of you know The Shelter in Atlanta is closing its doors tonight after a 4 year run.  Its with a heavy heart that I report this on my own blog. The Shelter was not just a bar, it was like a second home to me (and one of my reasons for re-locating to Atlanta years ago). And even was the home of my first solo art showing.

However its best not to mourn, they are going out with a bang tonight with their famous New Wave New Years Eve party. So to celebrate the bar that was opened on a simple premise of "No dress codes, no VIP lists, no douchebags, and everyone is welcome"

I would like to present to you a few photos I was invited to take last night.

Not only will these 12 images live on in the form of this Blog, but I have partnered with Michael and Davo to offer a limited edition 8"x10" print of each of these images. They will be auctioned off tonight with the proceeds going to a project that I can't talk about yet (but one that I am very excited to be a part of...and I think you will be too).

If you like what you see, please come out. Not just for me, but to show a really awesome place off in a blaze of glory.

I hope to see you all there, and if not I hope that whatever you do tonight you do it safely.

Not just a one trick pony

Hey UNEX friends and followers,

I'll admit I haven't been doing a lot of shooting these last few weeks. With the holidays approaching I find that a lot of my time has been taken up with getting things ready.

I have also been applying for a new day job, something a little closer to utilizing my skills as a creative/photographer.

I appreciate all of you still taking the time to check up on and like my works. I promise more will be coming very soon.

In the mean time I would like to let you all know that I have become part of a really cool organization. Black Bird Magazine. I was approached via Tumblr to possibly become a part of their team and contribute some photos and written articles. I jumped at the chance and am so glad I did.

Currently I have three articles submitted and pending publication, once they are published I will for sure link you all to them (and be linking the articles directly to the UNEX network of blogs).

For the curious I have taken my Caffenol project from the extra blog and refined it into a much clearer article. Also I have two articles that were just submitted today on the merits of keeping a notebook, as well as the pros and cons to attending an art school.

I'm really proud of the work I have been doing (and really happy to be writing ANYTHING for the first time since college), and I hope you all will be too.

Thanks for hanging in there, and keep an eye on the extra blog for my favorite images of 2013. Just like last year I'll be doing the same once again.

Just a quick check in (a state of the UNDEREXPOSED union so to speak):

Hey everyone,

Just wanted to clear up any rumors that I am dead or that I am out of the photography game. I am alive and well.

If any of you know me personally you will already know that I recently re-located a little bit outside of Atlanta for financial, and personal reasons. This move will afford me the opportunity to save a little cash as well as hopefully have a space to clear my head and get some new work coming once my day job gets a little less crazy coming up no later than the end of the holiday season. I also have a little bit more room to work that doesn't double as a bedroom...so that's a plus as well.

My new office is mostly set up, and aside from a little unpacking left to do I am just about ready to get back in the swing of things.

Speaking of new work, I have an upcoming appointment to do some band pictures for a local up and coming group called Earthbound Spirits from Douglasville GA. I have been contracted to get some pictures of them for promotions, and for their new website launching soon.

I am also in talks with another model from Zivity (you may remember some of my work with the great Scarlett Quinn which seems to have exploded on Tumblr these last few weeks) to get some new work done by the end of the month as long as my schedule allows.

In terms of personal projects, both that I have been planning are sadly, currently on the back burner. However I am still planning on getting those done sooner than later. Its just a matter of getting a budget together and some studio time (and clearing out some of the cobwebs floating around in my head).

We are coming up on a year of having an official website, and I thank all of you that have taken the time to come check it out. And if you have come out for any of my showings in the last year I want to thank you double. I think its almost time for a bit of a re-design and once I can get something solid that I like I will be taking the time to update everything.

Which brings me to my next order of business. What would you like to see coming in the future? Are there any ideas that you would want to see? Any stories you feel that need to be told?

What would I like to do you ask? Well I would like to take a little time to do some traveling. Aside from moving to Atlanta three years ago, I haven't really had a chance to get out on my own and spend some time in new places on my own terms. I would like to propose my "headshot extravaganza" ideas you may have heard me talking about where I visit new places and get some work done at a good rate while I am there. But of course that will take a bit more planning than I have time for right now.

Thanks for sticking in there, I know many of you would rather see a bunch more photos instead of me rambling. But don't worry...they are coming...you have my word.

Thats enough from me for the moment, but before I sign off I will leave you with a picture of some of my new roommates of the fuzzy variety. They still don't know whether or not to consider me a friend, or a sofa. Only time will tell.

A Peek Behind the Curtain:

Just wanted to show a few things I am working on. I have a board full of ideas and things, now its just getting everything together.

I have always wanted a big board to put things on, kinda like the chalk board wall in (500) Days of Summer. When I was shopping for condos last year I wanted to paint the walls in what would be my office in whiteboard paint. This will do for now.

And now - Instagrams!

And then...the important one:

30 days. I have 30 days to create some new work. Lets get to this.
