Polaroid

Rivers Langley - 2020 (2018).

So, naturally, I’d be the guy who would want to start a podcast about taking photos of people…during a time when it’s not wise to get closer to 6 feet from someone. I can’t say I’ve ever had the best timing, but when the idea strikes, you have to act on it. Thankfully I know some awesome people who are willing to step up and take on a challenge.

Back in 2018, I had the chance to meet up with Comedian and Podcaster, Rivers Langley, and take some new head-shots at the Standard Deluxe compound in Waverly, Alabama. Check out the first batch of these photos from when Rivers and I first shot together here.

So going back to the podcast, I took a look back at some of the photos I didn’t use back in 2018 and came across a few great moments that I felt needed to be shared and figured I’d chat with the man himself about what he’s been up to in the time of Corona.

Let Me Take Your Picture - Episode 1 - Rivers Langley:

Blake sits down virtually with Comedian and Podcast Host, Rivers Langley to talk Headshots, Comedy, Podcasting, and some experiments with long gone Polaroid film. To see the photos talked about in this episode, make sure to visit the blog at: UNEXphotography.com/news/2020/7/19/rivers-langely-2020.

During the episode Rivers and I talk about some of his experiments with Polaroid film. He sent me these photos to share with everyone, and I think they are pretty cool. I knew this kind of thing was possible, but I’ve never really tried it myself!

And if you liked the cut of Rivers’ jib, make sure to check out and subscribe to his very entertaining podcast:

Copenhagen, Denmark – 2020.

Happy 2020 everyone! This year I’m wasting no time getting some content headed your way.

The last few days have been a blur of travel, training, and for anyone who is a regular here…bicycles and various street arts. As the title of this post suggests, I’ve spent the last week in Denmark for my initial onboarding for my new job.

Denmark is a strange place (to me anyway), it seems like there are an abundance of culture, a movie theater every few blocks, and what boggled my mind the most…more 7 Elevens than I have at all in the greater Atlanta area (Except without the famous slurpees).

Being located closer to the Arctic Circle than I have ever been, I also had to get used to the winter days ending much sooner than I expected. This caused some new challenges to my usual European muses. I also learned that 61 Megapixels isn’t nearly as forgiving to hand shake as I previously had been used to. I’ll need to do some more experimenting on how to stop that moving forward.

But enough from me, enjoy this small piece of something out of my ordinary. Hopefully I’ll be back soon with some more portraits for all of you.

Seven Black and White Polaroids (and a few Color too)

Unless you have been living under a rock, you probably have seen some variant of the "Challenge your friends to post 7 Black and White photos" post floating around.

Usually, I take it upon myself to do one of these independently, but this year I was tagged by two friends to complete a week of Black and White photos. This year, however, I had a box of the new Polaroid Originals B&W film for my SX-70 to play with.

This post is a collection of the photos I posted throughout the week of November 12-November 18, 2017.

Along with the B&W film, I also had a pack of the color option as well. I find the color SX-70 film to be much harder to work with (but this current formulation seems to render color a little better than it did in the past).

Week 21 – Location Scouting – Impossible Color SX-70 (Gen 1)

After a long-ish series of events, I finally tracked down and installed a frog tongue onto my SX-70. I had a spare pack of color film ready for an event sponsored by The Impossible Project here in Atlanta (that I ended up missing) and I figured I'd go test it out.

Even after doing all of the tips and tricks I have read, these photos turned out a little better, but still not where I want them to be for paying $25 bucks a pack. Aside from things being a little red on everything outside (Atlanta is quite warm) I just didn't feel like much of anything was exposed correctly. Oh well, it was a fun little experiment. Maybe once all of the kinks get worked out (if they ever do) I'll invest more time into Impossible instant films.

Week 19 – 4th of July – Impossible B&W SX-70 (Gen 1)

Yes, I know. "shield the print immediately once it comes out of the camera". I'm working on that. When I bought this box and another of color a few weeks ago I made sure I picked up a frog tongue at the same time. However it ripped while I was trying to install it, so I had to get another shipped to me. But that aside I still think I had very few images that 100% worked.

Thats not to say that I don't like these images. They have their flaws, but each one is a unique moment in my life.  Now if I can just figure out how to trick the camera into faster shutter speeds or get a tiny tripod to stop my hand shakes. But that's an issue for another time.
