Benjamin Unbutton and CharLee Cherie – 2019.

2019 is quickly coming to an end.

No shit. It really is. I started out this year shooting superheroes, and I honestly couldn’t think of a better way to end it with some good old fashioned portraits.

This year for me has been a slower one than in years past, and in some ways thats a good thing. Finding a good balance is hard, and honestly I’ve been burning the candle at both ends for far too long. I hope (and in some ways already know) that 2020 will bring some pretty extreme changes. I’m so excited to bring you all with me.

This was finally my first time using my new A7RIV after buying it back in September. I have been trying to nail down some camera time with it to really put it through its paces, and finally I’m happy to share the results.

I am blown away.

I really need to spend some more time with the body and work out a few kinks that came up, but overall I still can’t believe how good the camera feels in my hand, and how great these files look when put into Capture One.

Thank you to Benjamin and CharLee for dropping by and spending some time in my office-studio-bedroom. Hope all of you out there like these as much as I do, and if you do, please go show these two some love and adoration.

This Is Rad! - (The Alien Franchise)

Earlier this year I had the chance to meet Kyle Clark at his album taping for Absolute Terror (Info below), but I guess this story actually starts farther back than that (Spoiler Alert: We talk about it on the episode). At the taping Kyle gave me a standing invite to come on the show if I was ever in the LA area. Well, it just so happened that in early October I was doing some traveling and reached out.

I had a great time meeting and recording with the whole Rad! crew, and encourage you to listen to my goofy ass voice talk about Aliens for three hours (yeah…no joke). Hopefully I’ll be able to make it back and maybe get another episode recorded in the can.

And of course, my offer does still stand for headshots or anything Radland Records related ;)

This is a rare chance to hear me talk about something that isn’t photography related…so enjoy!

This week Kyle and Matthew welcome photographer Blake Griffin to the show to chat about the Alien Franchise. Everybody involved is a fan and they really go deep on this one. From the cinematic perfection that are Alien and Aliens to the triumphs and tragedies of the comics and video games. We dig into the franchise and leave very few stones unturned. So climb into your power loader and strap in because in podcasting nobody can hear you scream. (That’s not true, we hear Kyle scream on this podcast all the time. Zing!)

The FANDom Nerdlesque: Pokémon A-Go-Go Promo Photos - 2019.

Every now and then you find a client that consistently like to stretch your creative talents, and working with The FANDom always seems to be a stretch that I love taking on.

Earlier this year I was tasked to come up with my take on the Marvel MCU (and ended up being pretty happy with the end result), so when I was told about what needed to happen for an upcoming Pokémon themed show (something I was a little bit more familiar with since it was something that took up a majority of my childhood) I couldn’t wait to see what was “in the cards”.

Below were some of the final products we were able to come up with for promotional items. Hopefully I’ll be able to catch a set of my own!

You can see this show for yourself at Anime Weekend Atlanta on November 1st, or at Red Light Café on November 8th (details at the end of the post).

June (The Month) - 2019

Hey ya’ll…it’s been a while.

Even that is harder to write than I’d like it to be. But I’m hoping that in the next little bit I can get myself back into the swing of things. After getting back from The Netherlands in May, I hoped that things would have continued the way they always did. However, every time I even thought about picking up my camera…I just couldn’t.

So I forced myself to keep making work. The only way out is through. Or at least that’s what I kept telling myself.

I partnered up with blog regulars Sunday and Gideon for the photos below, even if it did take me 4 months to write a blog post about it.

Now, all of that being said, I do have some interesting things in the pipeline coming soon. So please keep in touch and keep your eyes peeled.

See you soon.

The Netherlands 2019 - More Bikes (and Maybe a Few Tulips) .

So, I guess I’ve put this off long enough. Not sure why. I mean it shouldn’t be that hard to type up a few paragraphs about my process, or the things I had the chance to do or see, but for some reason I’ve had a hard time getting my thoughts together about this one.

It still boggles my mind, the obsession I have with bikes when traveling abroad. I think it stems from never really learning how to ride one as a child (long story), but at any rate I always joke with friends about how much the things I shoot change depending on where I am.

A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to return to The Netherlands, this time to lead a group of Photographers on a tour of the Dutch countryside. While I tend to shy away from sharing too much about my day to day job role, I’ll be sharing some of the photos I captured while facilitating the workshop.

So without further ado, please enjoy more of my “famous” photos from countries abroad.
